Xikipedia is a web application that presents Wikipedia content as a social media feed, using a simple non-ML algorithm that learns user engagement preferences locally. It runs entirely client-side, works offline as a PWA, and sends no data off the device.
Use cases
- browse wikipedia articles as an infinite scroll feed
- demonstrate how recommendation algorithms learn from engagement
- read wikipedia offline as an installed app
- show a privacy-friendly recommender with no user data collection
- explore simple english wikipedia content
- teach how feed ranking algorithms work
When to choose
- you want a privacy-respecting, fully local recommendation demo
- you want to consume wikipedia in a social-feed format
- you need an offline-capable PWA for casual reading
- you want a simple, transparent example of engagement-based ranking
When to avoid
- you need ML-based or collaborative-filtering recommendations
- you want a full social network with accounts or posting
- you need content beyond Wikipedia dumps
- you require server-side personalization across devices
