Video DownloadHelper is a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge that detects and downloads video and audio content from thousands of websites, including HLS streams. It is self-contained as of v10 and requires no companion app.
Use cases
- download videos from any website
- save hls streams to file
- grab embedded video from a webpage
- download audio tracks and subtitles from streaming sites
- save live stream captures
- download hd videos from the browser
When to choose
- you want a browser-integrated video downloader across Chrome, Firefox, and Edge
- you need to save HLS or streaming media without external software
- you want a mature, widely used tool with 20 years of development
When to avoid
- you need to download DRM-protected content, which is not supported
- you need a command-line or headless bulk downloader rather than a browser extension
- you need unlimited downloads without a premium license
