Tasks is a free, open-source to-do list and reminders app for Android (with an alpha desktop version), revived from the discontinued Astrid Tasks codebase. It supports recurring tasks, location-based reminders, subtasks, custom filters, and multiple sync options including CalDAV, Google Tasks, EteSync, and self-hosting.
Use cases
- manage to-do lists and reminders on android
- sync tasks with caldav or davx5
- self-host task synchronization
- replace google tasks with an open-source app
- set location-based reminders
- organize tasks with tags, filters, and subtasks
- sync tasks end-to-end encrypted with etesync
When to choose
- you want an open-source, ad-free task manager on android
- you need flexible sync options including self-hosting and CalDAV
- you want deep customization, subtasks, and location reminders
- you value privacy and offline use
When to avoid
- you need a polished desktop or iOS app (desktop is alpha, iOS unsupported)
- you want built-in team project management like Jira or Asana
- you rely on Google Tasks-only features like single-level subtasks
