Alibi is an Android app that continuously records audio and video in the background, keeping a rolling buffer of the last 30 minutes that can be saved on demand. It works entirely offline with fully configurable recording settings.
Use cases
- use my phone as a dashcam while driving
- record the last 30 minutes of audio after an incident
- keep a rolling video buffer for evidence while cycling
- capture footage of interactions with police or in accidents
- record background audio continuously without internet
- save recent video only when something happens
When to choose
- you need a privacy-friendly, offline dashcam on an Android phone
- you want continuous background recording with on-demand saving of recent footage
- you prefer open-source apps available on F-Droid
When to avoid
- you need an iOS or desktop dashcam solution
- you need cloud backup or live streaming of recordings
- you need dashcam features like GPS overlay or parking mode hardware integration
