MSM (Minecraft Server Manager) is a single bash init script for managing multiple Minecraft and Bukkit servers on Linux machines. It handles starting, stopping, restarting, backups, jar updates, and in-game commands from the command line.
Use cases
- run multiple Minecraft servers on one machine
- automatically back up Minecraft worlds on a schedule
- start and stop Minecraft servers with an init script
- automatically download and update server jar files
- send commands to all Minecraft servers at once
- load Minecraft worlds into RAM to reduce lag
- manage whitelists across several Minecraft servers
When to choose
- you administer one or more Minecraft/Bukkit servers on a Debian or RedHat Linux box
- you want cron-driven backups, log rolling, and jar updates from a single script
- you prefer shell-based server management with tab completion over heavyweight panels
When to avoid
- you need a graphical web panel for server management
- you run Minecraft servers on Windows or macOS
- you want a modern containerized or systemd-native deployment
