Kreate is an open-source Android music player that serves as a multilingual frontend for YouTube Music, forked from RiMusic with a strong emphasis on performance. It is written in Kotlin, distributed via F-Droid and IzzyOnDroid, and lets users stream music from YouTube's catalog in a native mobile app.
Use cases
- play youtube music on android with a native app
- open source alternative to the official youtube music app
- stream music from youtube without using the full youtube app
- lightweight fast music player for my android phone
- music streaming app i can install from f-droid
- android music app that works in my language
When to choose
- You use YouTube Music as your music source but want a faster, open-source Android client
- You prefer installing apps from F-Droid or IzzyOnDroid rather than proprietary app stores
- You need a music app localized in many languages
When to avoid
- You need an iOS, desktop, or web client - Kreate targets Android only
- You want to manage a local music library or a self-hosted streaming server instead of streaming from YouTube
- You cannot rely on unofficial third-party access to YouTube's catalog, which can break when YouTube changes
