Heynote is a dedicated scratchpad and note-taking desktop app for developers and power users, built as a large persistent text buffer divided into blocks. Each block can have its own language mode with syntax highlighting, auto-formatting, math/calculation support, and multiple buffers organized in tabs.
Use cases
- draft Slack messages without accidentally sending them
- paste and auto-format a JSON response from an API
- take quick meeting notes
- keep a daily to-do list in a persistent buffer
- do quick napkin math with unit and currency conversion
- scratch notes with syntax highlighting for code snippets
When to choose
- you want a fast, always-available scratchpad with a global hotkey
- you need block-based notes mixing code, JSON, and prose with syntax highlighting
- you want a calculator/currency-conversion scratchpad built into your notes
- you work on Mac, Windows, or Linux and want one consistent tool
When to avoid
- you need a mobile note-taking app
- you need structured notes with rich formatting, backlinks, or a knowledge graph
- you need cloud sync or collaboration features
- you need a full-featured long-form writing tool
