Later is a macOS menu bar app that saves your current workspace of open apps and restores it with one click. It supports hiding or closing apps, scheduling apps to reopen later, and keyboard shortcuts for saving and restoring sessions.
Use cases
- save my mac apps and restore them later
- clear desktop before screen sharing
- close all apps to save battery
- schedule apps to reopen after some time
- tidy up workspace with one click
- switch off from work and restore session later
When to choose
- you want a lightweight menu bar utility to snapshot and restore your Mac workspace
- you need to quickly hide or close all apps before meetings or screen sharing
- you want to save battery by closing apps and reopening them later
When to avoid
- you need a maintained project - the author explicitly stopped maintaining it
- you are on Windows or Linux - it is macOS-only (11.6+)
- you need signed, notarized software - the app is unsigned and requires bypassing a Gatekeeper warning
