A self-hosted web service that bypasses paywalls on news sites by fetching pages as GoogleBot, a replacement for the defunct 12ft.io. It serves a simple web interface, tries multiple bypass methods with fallbacks, and can be run via Docker or a Python script.
Use cases
- read paywalled articles from medium or new york times
- self-host a 12ft.io alternative
- bypass news site paywalls
- block ads and paywalls on articles
- view a single paywalled article without subscribing
When to choose
- you want a self-hosted paywall bypass that works on sites 12ft.io missed
- you prefer running via Docker or a simple Python script
- you need multi-method fallback for stronger paywalls
When to avoid
- you want to support content creators by paying for subscriptions
- you need a browser extension rather than a hosted server
- the target site blocks GoogleBot-based bypasses
