## What it is
ZotLit is a pair of community plugins (an Obsidian plugin and a Zotero companion add-on) that integrates a Zotero reference library into Obsidian. It generates templated Markdown literature notes, inserts citations while typing, imports Zotero notes, and shows PDF annotations in a live sidebar view.

## Use cases
- create literature notes from Zotero items in Obsidian
- insert citations into markdown notes while writing
- import PDF highlights and annotations into my vault
- build a Pandoc citation workflow with Obsidian
- search my Zotero library without leaving Obsidian
- keep literature notes up to date with Zotero changes
- manage academic references in a knowledge base

## When to choose
- you use both Zotero and Obsidian for academic research and note-taking
- you want templated, auto-updating literature notes with metadata and annotations
- you need fast in-editor citation insertion and Pandoc export

## When to avoid
- you don't use Obsidian or Zotero
- you need a standalone reference manager rather than an integration
- you rely on v1 templates and can't afford migration work to v2
