## What it is
Xray-core is a network proxy platform written in Go, best known as the successor to v2ray-core and the home of the XTLS/REALITY anti-censorship protocols. It supports multiple proxy protocols (VLESS, VMess, Trojan, Shadowsocks, SOCKS5, WireGuard) and transports for tunneling traffic past censorship.

## Use cases
- circumvent internet censorship with REALITY and XTLS
- set up a self-hosted proxy server with VLESS or Trojan
- replace v2ray-core with a more actively developed core
- tunnel traffic over TLS to look like normal HTTPS
- route and forward traffic with DNS and routing rules
- run a VPN-like tunnel over WireGuard or XHTTP

## When to choose
- you need robust, actively developed anti-censorship proxying
- you want REALITY/XTLS or XHTTP transport features
- you need v2ray-core compatibility with more protocol options
- you self-host a proxy server on Linux with systemd or Docker

## When to avoid
- you need a simple consumer VPN app with a GUI
- you only need a plain OpenVPN or WireGuard setup without obfuscation
- you want a managed commercial VPN service
