## What it is
VRM4U is an Unreal Engine (UE4/UE5) plugin that imports VRM 3D avatar files at runtime and in-editor. It generates skeletal rigs, morph targets, spring bones, and MToon-style anime materials so VRM characters render correctly within Unreal Engine scenes.

## Use cases
- load VRM avatar models in Unreal Engine 5
- render anime-style characters with MToon shading in UE5
- retarget humanoid animations onto VRM characters
- use VRM models on mobile with skeletal mesh reduction
- import VRM spring bones and blend shapes into Unreal
- display VRM characters in PBR scenes without post-processing

## When to choose
- you need to use VRM avatars inside Unreal Engine 4 or 5
- you want anime/toon-shaded characters with outlines and MatCap in UE
- you need runtime VRM loading in a shipped UE game
- you target Windows, Mac, or mobile platforms in Unreal

## When to avoid
- you use Unity, Godot, or another engine instead of Unreal Engine
- you need PBR-accurate character rendering rather than toon shading
- you require commercial support or guaranteed response times (it is a solo-maintained project)
- you need UE versions older than 4.20 with full material support
