## What it is
Ventoy is an open-source tool for creating bootable USB drives that can hold many ISO/WIM/IMG/VHD(x)/EFI image files at once. Users simply copy image files to the USB drive and Ventoy presents a boot menu to select and boot them, without reformatting.

## Use cases
- create a bootable usb drive from an iso
- boot multiple linux distros from one usb stick
- make a multiboot usb with windows and linux installers
- test iso files without burning dvds
- set up a rescue usb with clonezilla and memtest86
- boot iso files with secure boot enabled
- create a persistent linux usb drive
- run unattended windows or linux auto-installs from usb

## When to choose
- you need to boot many different ISO images from a single USB drive
- you want to avoid reformatting the USB drive for each new image
- you need broad firmware support including Legacy BIOS, UEFI, and ARM64
- you want persistence or unattended installation support for bootable media

## When to avoid
- you need to write a single image byte-for-byte (e.g., dd-style flashing) for maximum compatibility
- you only ever boot one specific OS and prefer a simple single-image flasher
- the target ISO is among the small percentage of distros Ventoy does not support
