## What it is
Tizonia is a command-line cloud music player for Linux that streams from Spotify, YouTube, SoundCloud, TuneIn, iHeartRadio, Google Play Music, Plex servers, and Chromecast devices. It is also the first open-source implementation of the OpenMAX IL 1.2 multimedia framework, requiring no ffmpeg, gstreamer, or libvlc.

## Use cases
- play Spotify playlists from the Linux terminal
- stream YouTube audio without a browser
- listen to SoundCloud or TuneIn radio in the command line
- cast music to a Chromecast device from the terminal
- play music from a Plex server via CLI
- serve local MP3 files over a SHOUTcast/Icecast LAN stream
- control playback remotely via MPRISv2
- play local MP3, FLAC, OGG, and OPUS files

## When to choose
- you want to stream cloud music services from a Linux terminal without a GUI
- you need a lightweight player that avoids ffmpeg/gstreamer dependencies
- you want to cast audio to Chromecast from the command line
- you need an open-source OpenMAX IL 1.2 implementation for multimedia development

## When to avoid
- you need a graphical music player
- you are on macOS or Windows (Linux only; macOS support is on the roadmap)
- you need a free Spotify account (Spotify requires Premium)
- you need a mature, actively maintained release cycle (project is in revival with stale docs)
