## What it is
TeslaMate is a self-hosted data logger for Tesla vehicles, written in Elixir, that records high-precision drive and charging data into a PostgreSQL database. It visualizes the data with Grafana dashboards and publishes vehicle data to an MQTT broker for integration with home automation systems.

## Use cases
- log my tesla's driving and charging data
- track tesla battery health over time
- track charge costs for my tesla
- integrate tesla data into home assistant
- self-hosted tesla telemetry dashboard
- monitor tesla vampire drain and sleep behavior
- import data from teslafi

## When to choose
- you own a Tesla and want full ownership of your vehicle data on your own server
- you want Grafana dashboards for battery health, charging, and driving statistics
- you want MQTT integration with Home Assistant, Node-RED, or Telegram
- you want to avoid vampire drain by letting the car sleep as soon as possible
- you need to track multiple vehicles on one Tesla account

## When to avoid
- you don't want to self-host a Docker/Postgres/Grafana stack
- you only need a quick mobile app without running your own infrastructure
- you are unwilling to grant a third-party API integration access to your Tesla account
- you need real-time remote control of the vehicle rather than data logging
