## What it is
TerraCognita is a Go CLI tool that reverse-engineers existing cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, Azure, and VMware vSphere into Terraform HCL configuration and/or Terraform state files. It automates IaC adoption by generating Terraform code from live cloud resources using community Terraform providers.

## Use cases
- generate terraform code from existing aws infrastructure
- import current cloud resources into terraform state
- reverse engineer cloud infrastructure to hcl
- adopt infrastructure as code for an existing gcp project
- convert azure resources to terraform configuration
- bootstrap terraform for legacy vmware vsphere environments

## When to choose
- you have existing cloud infrastructure not managed by Terraform and want to bring it under IaC
- you need to generate a Terraform state file to start managing resources with Terraform
- you use AWS, GCP, Azure, or vSphere and want automated HCL generation

## When to avoid
- you are starting infrastructure from scratch with no existing cloud resources
- you need providers or resource types not yet supported by Terracognita
- you want a full drift-detection or policy-as-code solution rather than one-time import
