## What it is
SickChill is a self-hosted, cross-platform automatic video library manager (PVR) for TV shows written in Python with a web interface. It watches for upcoming episodes, searches torrent and usenet (nzb) providers, sends downloads to your client, then renames, sorts, and post-processes files while integrating with Kodi, Plex, Trakt, and subtitle providers.

## Use cases
- automatically download new episodes of my favorite tv shows
- self-hosted pvr to manage my tv show library
- grab torrents and nzbs for shows as soon as they air
- rename and organize tv episode files automatically
- automatically download subtitles for tv shows
- keep my kodi or plex library updated with new episodes
- sick beard alternative for tv show automation

## When to choose
- You want a self-hosted PVR that watches for upcoming TV episodes and grabs them automatically from torrent and usenet providers
- You need broad provider support, including public and private trackers plus newznab/torznab indexers
- You use Kodi, Plex, or Trakt and want automatic library updates, metadata, artwork, notifications, and subtitle downloads

## When to avoid
- You want to manage movies, music, or other media types rather than TV shows
- You prefer a more modern, polished ecosystem such as Sonarr/Radarr-style tooling with larger active communities
- You need a fully hands-off media pipeline without configuring indexers, download clients, and post-processing
