## What it is
ShaderGlass is a Windows (and Wine) overlay application that applies GPU shader effects on top of the desktop, a window, or a captured source. It ships with the 1200+ shader RetroArch library for CRT simulation, upscaling, and image effects, and can be captured by OBS.

## Use cases
- apply CRT shader effects to retro games without emulator support
- overlay RetroArch shaders on any window or full-screen game
- get a pixel-perfect preview window for pixel art in Aseprite
- simulate old TVs, VHS, and handheld screens on modern displays
- upscale and sharpen retro emulator output
- apply shader effects to a webcam or capture card feed
- run shaders over YouTube or Twitch video on Windows

## When to choose
- you want CRT or retro display effects in emulators or games that lack built-in shader support
- you need a floating shader-processed preview for pixel art work
- you want to use the RetroArch .slang shader library outside RetroArch, including under Wine on Linux

## When to avoid
- you need shaders on macOS or native Linux outside Wine
- you only need shaders inside RetroArch or a single emulator that already supports them
- you require very low latency or performance headroom on weak GPUs
