## What it is
SatDump is a general-purpose satellite data processing application that receives, records, demodulates, and decodes signals from weather satellites, space probes, and other spacecraft using software-defined radio (SDR) hardware. It provides both a GUI and CLI for live decoding and offline processing of baseband recordings, producing satellite imagery and calibrated georeferenced products.

## Use cases
- decode NOAA APT weather satellite images with an RTL-SDR
- process recorded baseband files from Meteor-M LRPT satellites
- build an automated GOES geostationary weather satellite receiving station
- demodulate Metop HRPT signals and produce true color imagery
- record satellite downlinks from an Airspy or HackRF
- decode Inmarsat Aero and STD-C EGC messages
- generate calibrated L1b sea surface temperature products from satellite data

## When to choose
- you want an all-in-one tool to receive and decode satellite transmissions with an SDR
- you need to process recorded baseband captures offline into satellite imagery
- you want to automate a weather satellite ground station with scheduling and rotator control
- you need calibrated, georeferenced satellite products for meteorological or scientific use

## When to avoid
- you need general-purpose SDR signal analysis rather than satellite-specific decoding
- you want a lightweight library to embed satellite decoding into your own software
- you only need simple FM/AM radio reception without satellite pipelines
