## What it is
RED_HAWK is a PHP-based all-in-one reconnaissance and vulnerability scanning tool for websites. It performs information gathering (whois, DNS, geo-IP, subdomain and reverse IP lookups), CMS detection, banner grabbing, error-based SQLi scanning, and WordPress-specific scans from the command line.

## Use cases
- gather information about a target domain before a pentest
- scan a website for SQL injection vulnerabilities
- enumerate subdomains of a domain
- detect which CMS a website is running
- scan a WordPress site for sensitive files and version vulnerabilities
- perform whois and geo-IP lookups on a domain
- check if a site is behind Cloudflare
- crawl a website to extract links

## When to choose
- you want a single interactive CLI tool covering many basic recon and scanning tasks
- you are a penetration tester doing initial reconnaissance on a web target
- you need quick CMS detection, subdomain enumeration, and banner grabbing without stitching together multiple tools

## When to avoid
- you need a modern, actively developed scanner with updated vulnerability signatures
- you require scalable or automated scanning in CI pipelines rather than interactive use
- you need deep exploitation capabilities rather than surface-level scanning
- your environment cannot run PHP

## Facets
- artifact type: cli-tool
