## What it is
Fleet is a GitOps and HelmOps deployment engine for Kubernetes, built as CRDs and controllers that deploy workloads from Git repositories (raw YAML, Helm charts, or Kustomize) to one or many clusters. It is designed to scale to large fleets of clusters, deployments, and teams, using Helm as the underlying deployment engine for consistency and auditability.

## Use cases
- deploy workloads from git to many kubernetes clusters
- gitops continuous delivery for kubernetes at scale
- manage helm chart deployments across a fleet of clusters
- sync kustomize manifests to multiple downstream clusters
- control deployment windows with scheduled updates
- multi-tenant gitops with access control policies
- preview and validate fleet bundles from the cli

## When to choose
- you need to deploy and keep workloads in sync across many Kubernetes clusters from Git
- you want GitOps with support for raw YAML, Helm charts, and Kustomize in one tool
- you run Rancher and want integrated multi-cluster GitOps
- you need per-cluster customization, targeting, and deployment scheduling windows

## When to avoid
- you only need a single-cluster GitOps tool and prefer a simpler option like Flux or Argo CD
- you are not using Kubernetes at all
- you need a general-purpose CI/CD pipeline runner rather than a GitOps deployment controller
