## What it is
Proma is a local-first, open-source AI desktop application that combines multi-model chat, a general-purpose agent runtime, workspaces, skills, MCP servers, and memory in a single client. It supports embedded browser automation, remote bot bridges (Feishu/Lark, DingTalk, WeChat), and stores all data locally in ~/.proma/ using JSON/JSONL files.

## Use cases
- chat with multiple LLM providers in one desktop app
- run a general-purpose AI agent for complex tasks
- automate browser tasks like filling forms and scraping pages
- trigger local agent workflows from Feishu or WeChat on my phone
- organize AI projects with per-project skills and MCP servers
- keep my AI chat history and agent data stored locally
- delegate long-running tasks to sub-agents with plan confirmation

## When to choose
- you want a local-first desktop alternative to ChatGPT/Claude web apps with agent capabilities
- you need MCP support, skills, and workspace memory in one client
- you want an agent that can control a built-in browser
- you prefer owning your data in plain local files without a database

## When to avoid
- you need a Linux build (releases target macOS and Windows only)
- you want a lightweight CLI or headless agent framework rather than a GUI app
- you require team-scale skill distribution without the commercial/enterprise edition
- you need a pure chat API or SDK to embed in your own product
