## What it is
Privaxy is a MITM HTTP(S) proxy written in Rust that blocks ads and trackers at the network level, supporting Adblock Plus and uBlock Origin filter syntax. It includes a web GUI with statistics and a live request explorer, and can filter any HTTP traffic, not just browser traffic.

## Use cases
- block ads and trackers network-wide
- self-hosted ad blocker proxy
- block ads without browser extensions
- filter HTTP traffic for any application
- run an adblock proxy on a small server or VM
- alternative to Pi-hole with URL-level filtering

## When to choose
- you want ad/tracker blocking outside the browser for all HTTP clients
- you need URL-level filtering more precise than DNS-based blockers like Pi-hole
- you want low memory usage and high throughput on modest hardware
- you want to inject scripts or styles into pages like uBlock scriptlets

## When to avoid
- you only need per-browser blocking and prefer a simple extension like uBlock Origin
- you cannot or do not want to trust a MITM proxy with TLS traffic
- you need to block non-HTTP protocols or encrypted traffic you won't terminate
