## What it is
Polygon Edge is a modular, extensible framework written in Go for building Ethereum-compatible (EVM) blockchain networks with custom consensus and configuration. It is the predecessor to Polygon CDK, with the team now focused on newer tooling and Edge 0.6 and below no longer supported.

## Use cases
- launch my own ethereum-compatible blockchain network
- build a private appchain with EVM compatibility
- run a proof-of-stake chain with custom validators
- deploy a dedicated blockchain for my dapp
- spin up a testnet that behaves like ethereum
- create a permissioned enterprise blockchain

## When to choose
- you need a self-hosted, EVM-compatible chain framework you can fork and customize
- you want an Apache-2.0 licensed Go codebase for blockchain experimentation
- you are maintaining or studying an existing Edge-based network

## When to avoid
- you want actively developed, production-supported tooling - Polygon now directs users to Polygon CDK
- you need a simple way to interact with existing chains rather than run your own
- you require audited, production-ready software without modifications
