## What it is
Monokle is an open-source desktop IDE dedicated to authoring, previewing, and validating Kubernetes YAML configurations, with support for Helm, Kustomize, CRDs, and Git-based workflows. It also connects to live clusters to view and manage resources, and validates manifests against OPA policies and K8s schemas. Note: the project is no longer actively maintained by Kubeshop.

## Use cases
- edit kubernetes yaml manifests without memorizing syntax
- preview and debug helm charts before deploying
- validate kustomize overlays before applying to cluster
- enforce OPA policy rules on kubernetes manifests
- visualize resources and relationships in a gitops repo
- connect to a kubernetes cluster and inspect live state
- validate istio and cert-manager CRDs before deployment

## When to avoid
- you need actively maintained software with ongoing bug fixes and updates
- you only need CLI-based validation in CI pipelines
- you prefer editor plugins inside VS Code or JetBrains IDEs
