## What it is
Microcks is an open source, cloud native platform for API mocking and testing that turns OpenAPI, AsyncAPI, gRPC, GraphQL, Postman and SoapUI assets into live mock servers in seconds. It also runs contract conformance and non-regression tests against real API implementations, integrating with CI/CD pipelines via a CLI.

## Use cases
- mock REST APIs from an OpenAPI spec without writing code
- run contract testing against live API implementations in CI
- simulate microservice dependencies during development
- mock event-driven APIs from AsyncAPI specs on Kafka
- create mock servers for gRPC and GraphQL schemas
- automate API non-regression tests in Jenkins or GitHub Actions
- test API conformance across specification versions

## When to choose
- you need multi-protocol API mocking (REST, AsyncAPI, gRPC, GraphQL, SOAP) from a single tool
- you want Kubernetes-native deployment with Helm charts and an operator
- you need contract testing automated in CI/CD pipelines
- your team follows an API-first / APIDevOps workflow

## When to avoid
- you only need simple static stubs for one protocol - lighter tools may suffice
- you need a fully managed SaaS with no self-hosting
- your testing is UI-focused rather than API contract-focused
