## What it is
Pyrit is a WPA/WPA2-PSK precomputed cracker that builds massive databases of pre-computed Pairwise Master Keys using multi-core CPUs and GPU acceleration via CUDA, ATI Stream, and OpenCL. It is a Python 2 tool migrated from Google Code, with a from-scratch Python 3 rewrite in progress.

## Use cases
- crack wpa wpa2 psk passwords from captured handshakes
- precompute wpa pairwise master keys for brute-force attacks
- audit wifi network password strength
- benchmark gpu performance for pbkdf2 computation
- test wireless security with gpu-accelerated dictionary attacks

## When to choose
- you need GPU-accelerated WPA/WPA2-PSK key cracking on Linux, macOS, or FreeBSD
- you want to precompute PMK databases as a space-time tradeoff for wireless security audits
- you can work with Python 2 and legacy dependencies

## When to avoid
- you need a maintained Python 3 tool - the rewrite is still in progress
- you are on Windows or need modern CUDA/OpenCL support out of the box
- you want an actively developed project rather than one in maintenance mode
