## What it is
inxi is a full-featured command line system information tool written in Perl that reports detailed hardware, CPU, graphics, network, audio, battery, disk, kernel, and desktop data on Linux and BSD systems. It is built for console and IRC use and is widely used as a debugging aid for forum and technical support to quickly ascertain a user's system configuration.

## Use cases
- show my system hardware info from the command line
- check cpu ram and disk details on linux
- get system specs for a tech support forum post
- find out what gpu and driver version i have
- list audio and network devices and their drivers
- generate a system information report for debugging
- check battery health and sensor readings in terminal
- export system info as json or xml

## When to choose
- you need a quick one-shot system summary on Linux or BSD with no daemon required
- you're helping someone debug and need their hardware/software configuration fast, e.g. for IRC or forums
- you want broad hardware coverage (audio, graphics, network, battery, sensors, USB) from a lightweight Perl script
- you need machine-readable json/xml output of system inventory

## When to avoid
- you need continuous monitoring, alerting, or historical metrics rather than point-in-time snapshots
- you need a graphical system information utility
- your platform is Windows or macOS, which inxi does not target
- you need fleet-wide centralized hardware inventory management
