## What it is
A Python tool that decodes GSM radio traffic captured via software-defined radio receivers (RTL-SDR, HackRF, BladeRF, OsmocomBB) to display IMSI numbers, country, brand, and operator of nearby cellphones. It is intended for educational purposes to understand how GSM networks work.

## Use cases
- detect IMSI catchers or stingrays in my area
- sniff IMSI numbers from nearby cellphones with an RTL-SDR dongle
- learn how GSM networks work hands-on
- monitor GSM traffic on a specific frequency with gr-gsm
- log observed IMSIs to SQLite or MySQL for analysis
- track a specific IMSI during a security research experiment

## When to choose
- you have an SDR receiver and a Linux PC and want to observe GSM signaling
- you are studying mobile network security or stingray detection
- you want a simple Python script to decode IMSI/TMSI from gr-gsm output

## When to avoid
- you need legal-compliant cellular monitoring or production telecom tooling
- you have no SDR hardware or Linux environment
- you expect support for 4G/5G networks - it only handles GSM
- you intend to use it for unauthorized surveillance
