## What it is
Hyperion.NG is an open-source ambient lighting (Ambilight) application that captures screen or video content and drives LED strips and smart lights in real time. It supports many output devices including WS281x/SPI LEDs, WLED, Philips Hue, Nanoleaf, Yeelight, and Adalight, with a web UI and JSON-RPC API.

## Use cases
- build an Ambilight-style bias light behind my TV
- control WS2812B LED strips from a Raspberry Pi based on screen content
- sync Philips Hue lights with movies and games
- capture HDMI video and map colors to LEDs
- run ambient lighting effects on WLED or Nanoleaf
- control LED lighting from a web interface or JSON-RPC API

## When to choose
- you want self-hosted, cross-platform ambient lighting with broad LED and smart-bulb support
- you run a Raspberry Pi or media center (Kodi/LibreELEC) and want screen-bias lighting
- you need an API or web UI to automate and configure LED effects

## When to avoid
- you need simple static lighting scenes without screen capture
- you want a purely commercial plug-and-play product with vendor support
- your hardware lacks capture capability or supported LED interfaces
