## What it is
Hack is an open source monospaced typeface designed specifically for source code, based on the Bitstream Vera and DejaVu lineage. It ships Regular, Bold, Italic, and Bold Italic styles with over 1500 glyphs including extended Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic, plus built-in Powerline glyph support.

## Use cases
- choose a readable monospaced font for my code editor
- install a coding typeface with Powerline glyphs without patching
- use a libre font for terminal and IDE text at small sizes
- embed a monospaced web font on a documentation site
- customize an open source code font in a font editor

## When to choose
- you want a free, well-hinted monospaced font optimized for 8-14px code text
- you need Powerline symbols out of the box
- you need extended Latin, Greek, or Cyrillic coverage in a code font
- you want a font you can legally modify and redistribute commercially

## When to avoid
- you need a proportional or display typeface
- you need CJK or other non-Latin/Greek/Cyrillic scripts
- you want a font with frequent new releases or active development
- you need Nerd Font icon glyphs beyond Powerline
