## What it is
Gatus is a self-hosted, developer-oriented health dashboard and status page that monitors services via HTTP, ICMP, TCP, and DNS checks with configurable conditions. It supports alerting through Slack, Teams, PagerDuty, Discord, and many other channels, plus incident announcements.

## Use cases
- monitor uptime of my services and get alerted when they go down
- self-hosted status page for my APIs
- health check endpoints with conditions on status code and response time
- monitor TLS certificate expiration
- uptime monitoring inside a Kubernetes cluster
- send downtime alerts to Slack or Discord
- track service response times on a dashboard

## When to choose
- you want a self-hosted alternative to UptimeRobot or Statuspage
- you need declarative, config-as-code health checks with rich conditions
- you want built-in alerting to many providers without extra glue code
- you run services in Kubernetes or Docker and want a lightweight monitor

## When to avoid
- you need full metrics collection and graphing like Prometheus plus Grafana
- you need distributed tracing or log aggregation
- you want a managed hosted solution without maintaining infrastructure
