## What it is
FreeMoCap is a free, open-source, markerless motion capture system that uses ordinary cameras (webcams, GoPros, smartphones) to record and reconstruct full-body 3D movement of humans, animals, and robots. It combines a Python processing server with an Electron/React GUI, calibrating multi-camera setups with a ChArUco board and exporting results to CSV, FBX, and Blender formats.

## Use cases
- capture full-body motion with just webcams
- markerless motion capture for biomechanics research
- record 3D animation data for Blender or game engines
- track human movement for sports and athletic analysis
- synchronize multiple cameras for 3D pose reconstruction
- affordable motion capture without expensive hardware
- analyze gait and movement for scientific studies

## When to choose
- you need research-grade motion capture at zero cost using everyday cameras
- you want exports compatible with Blender, FBX pipelines, or CSV analysis
- you're doing biomechanics, animation, sports, or robotics movement research
- you prefer local processing without cloud services or proprietary hardware

## When to avoid
- you need real-time mocap for live game engines or streaming avatars with ultra-low latency
- you require sub-millimeter precision of optical marker-based systems like Vicon
- you need facial or finger tracking at production fidelity
- you want a fully polished turnkey product with no setup or calibration
