## What it is
The Etebase (EteSync 2.0) server, a Django-based backend that lets you self-host end-to-end encrypted synchronization of contacts, calendars, tasks, and notes. It stores zero-knowledge encrypted data so the server operator cannot read user content.

## Use cases
- self-host my own encrypted sync server for contacts and calendars
- run a private EteSync backend instead of paying for the hosted service
- sync notes and tasks across devices with end-to-end encryption
- keep calendar and contact data private from the server operator
- deploy a zero-knowledge data sync service for my family or organization
- replace Google contacts/calendar sync with an encrypted self-hosted option

## When to choose
- you want full control and privacy over your synced personal data
- you need a self-hosted, end-to-end encrypted alternative to CalDAV/CardDAV or Google sync
- you already use EteSync clients and want your own server instance

## When to avoid
- you want a hosted solution without server maintenance
- you need plain CalDAV/CardDAV compatibility without the EteSync clients or DAV bridge
- you need a general-purpose file sync tool like Nextcloud or Syncthing
