## What it is
ego (lite) is a Chromium-based macOS browser designed to be shared between a human user and AI coding agents like Claude Code, Codex, and Cursor. Agents drive browser tasks in isolated 'Spaces' using the user's real logins and tabs via the ego-browser skill, running multiple parallel automations faster and with fewer tokens than JS-shim automation frameworks.

## Use cases
- let my AI agent use my logged-in browser sessions
- automate tasks in my CRM or email with Claude Code
- run parallel browser automation tasks with an AI agent
- have Codex fill out web forms on sites I'm signed into
- share my browser state with AI agents without them disturbing my tabs
- automate social media or booking sites with an agent
- browser automation that reaches into iframes and shadow DOM

## When to choose
- You want AI agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor) to operate websites using your real logged-in sessions
- You need parallel browser tasks that don't collide with your own tabs
- You're on macOS and want zero-config agent browser automation
- Existing tools like browser-use struggle with cross-origin iframes, shadow DOM, or third-party widgets

## When to avoid
- You need Windows or Linux support (still on the roadmap)
- You only need headless scraping without a shared logged-in browser
- You want a pure automation library/API rather than a desktop browser app
- You can't install a custom Chromium-based browser on your machine
