## What it is
The Devilbox is a zero-configuration Docker-based development stack for PHP supporting full LAMP, LEMP and MEAN setups with swappable versions of Apache, Nginx, PHP, MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Redis, Memcached and MongoDB. It automatically creates vhosts, SSL certificates and DNS records for an unlimited number of local projects and includes an intranet dashboard and email catch-all.

## Use cases
- set up a local PHP development environment with docker
- run multiple local projects with automatic vhosts and https
- easily switch between PHP, MySQL and other daemon versions locally
- replicate a production LAMP stack on my laptop
- local development environment that works on Linux, macOS and Windows
- dockerized LEMP stack for local web development
- catch local emails sent by my PHP app during development

## When to choose
- you develop PHP web applications and want a preconfigured, version-flexible local stack
- you need multiple projects with automatic vhosts, DNS and valid HTTPS
- you want an identical dev environment across Linux, macOS and Windows
- you want to mix and match web server, database and cache versions to match production

## When to avoid
- you need a production hosting solution rather than a local dev environment
- your stack is not PHP-centric and you prefer lightweight per-project compose files
- you want a fully managed or GUI-first tool like Laravel Sail or Herd
- you cannot run Docker on your machine
