## What it is
A small Python script that regenerates the device identifiers (telemetry.machineId, macMachineId, etc.) stored in the Cursor editor's configuration file. It is used to make Cursor treat the machine as a new device, e.g. after account restrictions or trial limits.

## Use cases
- reset cursor editor device id
- bypass cursor trial restrictions
- fix cursor account restrictions after switching accounts
- generate new machine id for cursor
- reset cursor telemetry machine id on mac or windows

## When to choose
- you use Cursor v0.44 or below and need to reset its device identity
- you want a zero-dependency, single-file script that backs up the original config
- you need a quick cross-platform (Windows/macOS/Linux) device ID reset

## When to avoid
- you run a Cursor version newer than 0.44, which is unsupported
- you need a maintained tool with a license or ongoing updates
- you are unwilling to disable Cursor auto-updates and manually manage versions
