## What it is
Certd is a free, open-source, fully automated SSL certificate management system that applies for, renews, and deploys certificates via configurable pipelines. It supports DNS-01/HTTP-01 validation, wildcard certificates, 110+ deployment plugins (Nginx, Alibaba Cloud, Tencent Cloud, K8s, CDN, BaoTa, etc.), and self-hosted deployment with Docker.

## Use cases
- automatically renew letsencrypt certificates before they expire
- issue wildcard certificates for multiple subdomains
- auto-deploy renewed certificates to nginx on my server
- deploy ssl certificates to aliyun or tencent cloud cdn
- monitor website certificate expiration dates
- self-host a certbot alternative with a web ui
- export certificates in pfx, jks, or der format

## When to choose
- you manage many domains and certificates that need hands-off renewal and deployment
- you need wildcard certificates via DNS-01 across many registrars
- you want a self-hosted web UI with pipelines, notifications, and multi-user management
- you deploy certificates to Chinese cloud providers or panels like BaoTa and 1Panel

## When to avoid
- you only need a simple single-command CLI renewal without a web UI (certbot/acme.sh may suffice)
- you cannot self-host and are uncomfortable with sensitive credentials stored on your server
- you need a managed SaaS certificate service
