## What it is
Burrow is a free, open-source native macOS desktop utility (with a Windows beta) that combines junk cleanup, dev-artifact purging, app uninstalling, duplicate finding, disk treemap analysis, and live system monitoring in one app. It bundles an MIT-licensed engine forked from Mole's CLI and exposes a built-in loopback-only MCP server so AI agents like Claude Code and Cursor can query and manage the machine with consent-gated, auditable actions.

## Use cases
- clean caches and junk files from my mac
- uninstall apps and remove leftover files
- find duplicate files on disk
- visualize what is taking up disk space
- purge node_modules and derived data leftovers
- monitor system status from the mac menubar
- let an AI agent clean and maintain my computer via MCP
- find old installers in my downloads folder

## When to choose
- you want one free open-source app instead of a cleaner, uninstaller, duplicate finder, disk mapper, and monitor
- you want AI coding agents to inspect and maintain your Mac over MCP with consent-gated actions
- you want a native, notarized macOS utility with local-only data and no telemetry

## When to avoid
- you need deep antivirus or malware scanning rather than cleanup
- you need a cross-platform tool today and cannot tolerate a beta Windows build
- you prefer a pure CLI workflow rather than a GUI app
